RUSSIA IN RALEIGH

By Lynette Hull on November 13, 2013

For those of you who enjoyed the National Gallery Byzantine exhibit and want to see some icons from a different culture, the North Carolina History Museum is celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Romanov dynasty with and exhibit called “Window into Heaven.”  This exhibit displays 36 icons from the 18th and 19th centuries in Russia which belong to the Lilly and Francis Robicsek Collection.  Also on display are decorative items belonging to the Tsars in a show called “The Tsars’ Cabinet”.

Coincidental with this exhibit both the NC symphony and the NC Ballet have scheduled performances featuring Russian composers and choreographers.

OF NOTE:

If you would like to escape Thanksgiving dinner and instead continue to celebrate Russia there is a Russian Art Week in London Nov 22- 29.  Icons will be exhibited and for sale, along with art from all different periods of Russian history.

Iconostas, the famous Russian Fine Art dealer in London is a sponsor of the event.
